Earlier this year, Comcast announced its plan to separate Comcast and NBCUniversal into two publicly traded companies. The proposed separation is intended to give each company the opportunity to pursue its own strategic priorities, invest for growth, and create long-term value. I want to share what it means for Universal Ads.

Once the separation is complete, Universal Ads will move to NBCUniversal. We believe this will bring the business closer to the premium TV marketplace while Universal Ads continues to operate as an independent business. This move is also expected to provide the focus and investment needed to accelerate innovation for our advertisers and publisher partners and strengthen our mission to make premium TV advertising more accessible to advertisers of all sizes.

What Changes and What Doesn’t

Upon completion of the separation, Universal Ads will move to the NBCUniversal Media Group, reporting to Matt Strauss, Chairman of NBCUniversal Media.

What doesn’t change is how we operate. Universal Ads will continue to function as an independent, industry-agnostic business with the same mission, strategy, management team, and compliance controls currently in place. NBCUniversal Advertising, Sky Media, and Comcast Advertising will remain clients of Universal Ads, managed the exact same way as today. For our advertisers and publisher partners, nothing about how you work with Universal Ads changes.

Accelerating Access and Innovation

Universal Ads brings the power of TV into a simple, self-serve platform, making it easy for businesses of all sizes to access premium TV inventory - across participating networks and streaming platforms. Joining NBCUniversal, where advertising is a core business priority, is expected to accelerate that mission.

Additionally, the move will keep Universal Ads closely aligned with the broader premium TV ecosystem and FreeWheel, which will also move to NBCUniversal once the separation is complete, creating opportunities to accelerate innovation, simplify advertising, and deliver greater value to our advertisers and publisher partners.

Continuing Commitment

Universal Ads remains an independent business, focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for advertisers across its network of 20+ publisher partners while continuing to build and scale. Our commitment to providing advertisers with simple, seamless access to premium TV inventory remains unchanged.

We’re building for the future— bringing the simplicity and sophistication of digital media buying to premium TV, backed by incredible scale, premium inventory, and industry-leading data capabilities.
