Koddi Partnership

How an Iconic Tequila Brand Turned TV Advertising into a New Retail Growth Channel

‍

For generations, this premium tequila brand has mastered the art of tequila making, balancing tradition with innovation to preserve its taste and spirit. As one of the most trusted names in tequila, they have always maintained a loyal customer base and strong retail presence.

But as retail changed, more shoppers stocked their home bars through delivery, not just in-store. The brand needed to meet the customers where they were: on the couch, remote in hand and hopefully craving a margarita. TV advertising had to prove it could do more than build awareness. It needed to sell bottles of tequila.

The Challenge:

To sell directly to online consumers, the tequila brand partnered with Koddi, a commerce media platform, to bring its bottles to tequila lovers who never had to leave home.

Through a first-ever retail media activation on Universal Ads, Koddi put the brand on the big screen across premium streaming inventory to reach consumers from the comfort of their own couch. It marked the first time an alcohol brand ran a campaign on the platform.

This milestone moment was proof that alcohol brands and retail advertisers can now plan, activate and measure TV campaigns easily on one single platform with premium inventory from start to finish.

How the campaign worked:

Koddi and Universal Ads built the campaign to reach shoppers within a leading delivery partner’s footprint. The campaign targeted 722 zip codes nationwide where the brand’s bottles could be delivered directly to a customer’s door. Three creative variations ran across premium, brand-safe content, giving Koddi the ability to test messaging while staying inside strict alcohol compliance guardrails.

To measure incremental impact, Koddi compared the brand’s sales among households exposed to the TV campaign against a control group of unexposed households, providing a clear view of whether TV advertising drove purchases, not just impressions.

The results? TV didn’t just build brand awareness. It sold tequila.

9.5%
increase in ROAS among exposed households
413%
increase in revenue vs the unexposed control group
25.6%
increase in revenue per impression
These results show what becomes possible when we connect CTV to retailer data and leverage it as part of a brand's omnichannel strategy. Brands can reach consumers through premium content and measure the impact all the way through to a purchase. That creates an entirely new performance channel for advertisers and a meaningful new growth opportunity for commerce media networks. - Eric Brackmann, VP, Commerce Media, Koddi
Takeaway:

As the first retail media activation on Universal Ads and the first alcohol brand to run a TV campaign on the platform, the tequila brand proved that TV advertising belongs in the retail media mix as a performance channel that drives real revenue. For Koddi, it’s the playbook: bring TV into commerce media, watch it perform, and measure it like any other performance channel. Cheers!
